The eyes are central to communication and the aesthetic of the face not only because of the prominent position they hold on the face, but also because they express genuine emotion.
Our eyes communicate far more than just our feelings though. As we age, it is common for the skin around our eyes to take on a swollen or sagging appearance; this can be a natural part of ageing, or an indication of illness.
You can’t help getting older and being stressed or tired. However, you can address sagging and drooping eyelids. Also known as blepharoplasty, eyelid surgery offers patients an opportunity to reduce the visible signs of ageing around the eyes, restoring youthful and wakeful eyes.
How is eyelid surgery done?
Eyelid surgery differs depending on each individual case, and is a minimally invasive procedure performed under general or local anaesthetic.
The procedure involves removing excess fat and skin which may be unevenly distributed across the face. This excess fat and skin is caused through loss of plumpness in the face or various other age-related reasons. Blepharoplasty can be performed on both the upper and lower eyelids, completely reframing the eyes.
Fat grafting may also be used to even out the fat deposits on the face and recover your facial harmony, resulting in a more youthful profile.

The benefits of eye surgery
While eyelid surgery is only performed on a small part of the face, it can completely change your profile along with the shape of your eyes.
Blepharoplasty can be combined with other facial rejuvenation treatments; however, it is effective as a stand-alone treatment too with multiple anti-ageing benefits.
- When removing excess skin and fat from the upper and lower eyelid, eyelid surgery automatically reduces the appearance of fine lines around the eyes. This effect can further be enhanced by a brow lift.
- Surgery on the lower eyelid reduces puffiness and bags under the eyes through removing excess skin and fat. Dark pigmented skin under the eyes that form darks circles is also reduced, improving the tired and worn out appearance created by bags under the eyes.
- Sagging and drooping upper eyelids can physically obscure your vision, causing you to squint. It also aggravates lines at the corners of the eyes and causing discomfort. Removing the sagging and drooping section of the eye lid allows you to see unobstructed again.

Short recovery time
Eyelid surgery is a very delicate procedure because it is done on thin skin very close to the eye. After the surgery has been successfully performed the recovery time is short with manageable pain. Most patients can resume normal activities within two weeks. There are few limitations to the activities which can be done during recovery; we recommend keeping your eyes rested and avoiding activities that may dry your eyes like reading, watching TV or working on the computer.
