Is a breast reduction worth it?
A breast reduction procedure not only reduces the size of enlarged breasts, but also reshapes the breast to achieve a more youthful appearance. For many women, their breasts can become overly large and pendulous as a result of ageing, post-pregnancy related changes, weight gain, and hormonal changes. Often, the increase in breast size is accompanied by significant sag of the breast tissue resulting in loss of youthful breast shape and a drop in the height of the nipples. In extreme cases, the nipples can lie below the under breast fold and can sit on the lower most part of the breast.
If you’re struggling with the effects associated with large breasts, both physically and emotionally, breast reduction surgery is a good surgical option to address these concerns. The surgery may be undertaken at any age. Whilst most women will wait until after having children (as breastfeeding can be affected in some women) it can certainly still be performed prior to pregnancy, particularly if the symptoms dictate. Dr Reddy performs breast reduction in women of all ages, ranging from 18 to 80 year olds. Breast reduction in young women is undertaken when suitably indicated. The decision to have surgery prior to having children will ultimately be based on weighing up the benefits of breast reduction surgery in achieving symptom relief against the potential limitations of earlier surgery. Dr Reddy and his team cannot ignore the positive effects that we have personally observed in past patients, and can confidently say a breast reduction surgery is a procedure that can relieve a lot of the pain and symptoms associated with heavy breasts.
